Mission, Vision, Values, Focus & Strategy

Mission: WMEAC will protect and enhance West Michigan’s natural and human environment by translating the concern of people into positive action.

Vision: West Michigan will become a model of sustainable systems through WMEAC’s leadership in advocacy, engagement, education, and innovation.

Values: WMEAC will pursue its vision in ways that honor its long term values of the stewardship of resources, science-based solutions, and inclusiveness.

Strategies:

  • Advocating for environmental sustainability. We will actively press West Michigan businesses, governments, and institutions to improve their environmental practices and policies.
  • Connecting environmentally concerned citizens with resources and with each other. We aspire to be the most trusted West Michigan source of information and referrals for those seeking sustainable solutions.
  • Educating citizens on sustainability. We will inform the West Michigan Community of the best in global environmental thinking.
  • Innovating sustainable practices. We will apply the best in global environmental solutions to West Michigan problems and opportunities.
  • Creating positive change by staying focused on a limited number of priorities, reviewed annually.

Action Items

Great Lakes Great Michigan is a campaign to bring Michigan’s laws in line with the Great Lakes Compact, a regional agreement among the 8 Great Lakes States to preserve, protect and restore our Great Lakes. Take Action! Participate in the campaign at their website.

Clean Kent County - Every day an estimated 1 million gallons of untreated waste from toilets and household drains is discharged from Kent County’s failing septic systems. Clean Kent County is a campaign to improve Kent County’s efforts to address this growing issue. To learn more or get involved contact Shawn Wessel at swessell@wmeac.org.

Hispanic Environmental Health Webpage The EPA has launched a new site in Spanish, for Hispanic U.S. residents. It provides information on environmental issues and their effects.
